Feature
DNS Mode in V2Duo, a DNS Changer with Encrypted and Anti-Sanction DNS
Change the DNS of every app on your phone and computer with one choice, for blocking ads, encrypted lookups or reaching services that block your country. Even without any config.
Plenty of people install a "DNS changer" app to block ads, encrypt their lookups or reach services that block their country. These apps create a local VPN so they can send every DNS request to the server you choose. V2Duo does that too, and at the same time it can combine your connections and run your V2Ray configs.
What is DNS and why does changing it matter?
Every time you open an address like example.com, your device first asks a DNS server for that address's IP. Whatever the DNS server answers is where your device connects.
Different DNS services answer differently. AdGuard returns nothing for advertising domains, so ads do not load. Encrypted DNS (DNS over HTTPS) keeps your provider from seeing or changing your lookups. Anti-sanction DNS services, popular in Iran, answer with a relay server for sites that block users from that country.
Built-in choices
| Choice | What it is for | How lookups travel |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic (secure) | the default, best with configs | encrypted, through your configs |
| Cloudflare, Google, Quad9 | fast encrypted DNS over HTTPS | through configs, or direct if you have none |
| AdGuard | blocks most ads and trackers | as above |
| Shecan, Electro, 403, Begzar, Radar | services and sites that block Iran, games, app stores | directly over your own internet |
| Custom | up to four servers you choose | your choice |
Without a config: a complete DNS changer
If you connect with no config selected, V2Duo runs in direct boost mode: your links are combined and every DNS request goes to the servers you picked. Exactly what a DNS changer does, plus combining.
Steps:
- In V2Duo, open Settings and tap Change DNS in the DNS section.
- Pick one of the choices and save.
- Untick any config if you want DNS only.
- Connect. The home screen shows which DNS is active.
With configs
With configs, Automatic is usually best. Lookups are encrypted and travel through your config, so your provider neither sees which sites you open nor changes the answers.
With a custom DNS, you decide whether lookups go through the configs or directly. The anti-sanction services always go directly, because they only answer correctly from inside the country.
Why no app can slip around it
Android and Windows sometimes encrypt DNS on their own and send it straight to well-known servers (Private DNS on Android, DNS over HTTPS on Windows). When that happens, a DNS changer is quietly bypassed.
To prevent this, V2Duo gives the system a private DNS address inside the tunnel that only V2Duo answers. The system does not recognise that address as one it could upgrade to encrypted DNS, so every lookup reaches V2Duo. Even apps that set their DNS directly to 8.8.8.8 go through the same path.
We check this in the tests of every release: with a deliberately dead DNS server, no address may resolve, and none does. In other words, no lookup leaves by another route.
Custom DNS
Under Custom you can enter up to four servers, in two forms:
- an IP address, such as
1.1.1.1or9.9.9.9 - a DNS over HTTPS address with an IP, such as
https://9.9.9.9/dns-query
Addresses with a domain name instead of an IP are not accepted, because finding them would itself need DNS.
A few notes
- Anti-sanction DNS is not a proxy and does not open filtered sites. For that you need a V2Ray config.
- If a site does not open right after changing DNS, wait a few seconds; the browser may still remember the old answer.
- Changing DNS while connected rebuilds the connection for a moment.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need root for DNS mode?
No. V2Duo uses Android's own VPN feature, and its own network service on Windows.
Does it help with games?
It helps reach game services and downloads that block your region. It does not lower game ping.
Why do the anti-sanction choices not work outside Iran?
Those services are built for users inside Iran and usually answer only Iranian IP addresses.
Does DNS mode slow things down?
Hardly. V2Duo caches answers, so most repeated lookups are answered even faster than before.
Ready to try it?
V2Duo is free and takes a minute to install.
