Open Local Sites Without a Config (Split Tunneling by Destination)

Local sites open directly and everything else goes through your configs: banks and payment pages without errors, less config data, more speed.

A familiar annoyance with any proxy: local sites such as banks, payment gateways and some government services refuse connections from abroad or load slowly through the config. Many people end up switching their proxy off and on all day. V2Duo's "Open local sites without config" option solves that.

How it works

V2Duo ships with a list of domestic domains and IP ranges. With the option on:

  • connections to sites and servers on that list go directly over your own internet;
  • everything else goes through your configs.

This is called split tunneling, here by destination. A nice detail: even the direct traffic is spread across your links, so combining connections works for local sites too.

What you gain

  • Banks and payment pages without errors: sites that reject foreign connections open normally.
  • More speed: local sites open directly, without a round trip to a foreign server.
  • Less config data: downloads from local sites do not count against your config's data.
  • Cheaper domestic traffic: many carriers bill domestic traffic at a lower rate, which only applies when the traffic really goes direct.

Turning it on and off

In Settings, under local sites, switch "Open local sites without config" on or off. It is on by default. Changing it while connected applies a few seconds later.

This option only matters when you use a config. In direct boost mode (no config) everything is already direct.

Where does the list come from?

The domain and IP list is built into the app and updated with every release. No server of ours is involved, and V2Duo does not report which sites you open.

If a site takes the wrong route

Sometimes a local site uses foreign servers, such as international CDNs, and part of it goes through the config. Usually that causes no trouble. If a local site does not open properly with this option, send its name through support so we can add it in the next release.

A word on privacy

Connections that go direct are visible to your provider, as always. For local sites that rarely matters, but if you want everything inside the tunnel, turn the option off.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as per-app split tunneling?

No. It works by destination (site and IP), not by app. Telegram, your browser or any other app goes direct when it connects to a local site.

Do mobile banking apps work with it?

Most banking apps talk to domestic servers and go direct with this option. If one still errors, disconnect for a moment and let us know through support.

Does this slow down foreign sites?

No. Foreign sites still go through your configs as before.
